Technique applied! I pass this stump every day walking into work. I have been fascinated with it for several months now and decided to draw it today. I stopped and did a quick sketch and filled in the detail while I ate. It wasn't until I was almost done that I realized IT IS LISTING TO THE SIDE! This just cracked me up! It must have happened in the initial quick sketch. I didn't do too bad stepping out on my own, a few problems with the the shading but not too bad.

WOW!!!!! You're doing so very well with these, Tami!!!!!!
This is really a wonderful sketch Tami! I love ink work. I have also done a wonky sketch and not realized it until it was done (my computer for example), but hey, just laugh and be happy with the work cuz it's great.
Very nice technique, Tami - listing or not. (Tree stumps have, after all, been known to list in nature.)
Thank you all for your wonderful and supoportive comments! Teri and Karen you're both right, I just gotta laugh and with tree stumps nothing is exact!
These are great! The ink work on the stump reminds me of the old ink prints you would see in books at the beginning of chapters. If you didn't mention it was crooked, I wouldn't have known! Love the books, too. I scan my pen and ink drawing on the photograph setting to get the gradation of the pen right. I don't know if that is the best way, but it seems to work.
Thanks or the tip Jennifer. I will try it.
Tami, these pen and ink sketches look great. You've applied the technique really well with this tree stump. They are interesting, aren't they?
Good on you, Tami, for doing the practice - doesn't matter how they turn out, but this one is lovely. I love these 'old fashioned'style pen and ink drawings too. I was looking at lots today in our old set of Dicken's novels. I've put up 3 memory paintings today.
