Sand and Sea

I decided to upload both the inspirational picture and my painting. This was taken at Pt. Reyes, on a beautiful day, back in March. I loved the tapestry of ice plant and grasses coming down to the sand. Any suggestions on painting ocean and waves would be helpful as I'm still learning...

I love the bright colors and design of the painting. One thing that caught my eye right away is your shoreline, the direction should be more diagonal to the left which would give it more perspective. does that make sense?

Yep, and itshould recede into the distance. The other thing I figured out in looking at the 2, was that my "sand" area needs a little more height.

Tami, try fading your colors as they recede in the distance. This will give more atmospheric perspective. Do this on the land, sea and sky. I agree with Teri's suggestion, too.

Keep up the good work and study!

Lovely painting Tami! As soon as I saw saw it I knew where it was. I had been through Napa a few years ago and stopped at the same spot to snap a pict. Your painting brought back a wonderful memory. Thanks.
